Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital (SSMH) is the flagship hospital of Catholic Medical Center which has the largest medical network in Korea with eight affiliated hospitals. The Hospital is operated on state-of-the-art facility (the largest, single-building, medical building in Korea), equipment and infrastructure, along with 800 medical professionals and more than 4,000 employees. SSMH has a total of 1,369 inpatient beds including 139 ICU beds and there are 22 designated inpatient beds exclusively for international patients. The Hospital consists of 40 clinical centers & divisions and 24 specialized centers. The Hospital provides medical services to more than 150,000 outpatients monthly and approximately 3,000 surgical operations are performed every month. During the recent years, the number of international patients visiting SSMH has been rapidly increasing; more than 30,000 international patients received medical services at SSMH last year.

SSMH obtained full accreditation from AAHRPP, which is the international certification authority for clinical trials, for the first time in Korea. As part of its efforts in standardizing international healthcare services, it won its first JCI Accreditation by Joint Commission International of the United States of America in 2010, and successfully obtained the 3rd accreditation in July 2016 with over 99% completeness in patient-centered care such as patient assessment, treatment, medical records, explanation and consent forms. Comprehensive Cancer Institute In the Comprehensive Cancer Institute, there are Gastric Cancer Center, Colorectal Cancer Center, Lung Cancer Center, Hepato-pancreatico-biliary Cancer Center, Gynecologic Cancer Center, Breast Cancer Center, Thyroid Cancer Team, Urologic Cancer Team, CNS Tumor Team, Head and Neck Cancer Team, Bone & Soft Tissue Sarcoma Team, etc. In particular, one-stop service for the diagnosis and timely initiation of cancer therapy including surgery are the principles for cancer patient management.
Hematology Hospital has a global reputation, ranking the fifth in the world and the top outside the USA in quantitative performance of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; and performed more than 500 hematopoietic stem cell transplantations a year and reached 7,000th transplant in accumulation in 2017. The center operates and manages multidisciplinary teams composed of medical professionals from Divisions of Hemato-oncology, Pulmonology, Infectious Diseases, Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and is also playing a leading role in the advancement of treatment methods and hematologic research.
Cerebro-cardio-vascular Center The Cerebro-cardio-vascular Center at SSMH consists of 3 sub-centers; Cardiac, Cerebrovascular, and Aorta and peripheral vascular disease. Swift, effective, and comprehensive one-stop system which includes prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation end education of diseases is implemented by the medical professionals at the Center.
Oragan Transplant Center The Organ Transplant Center of SSMH has been playing a central role in transplants performed in Korea, based upon its pioneering role in the history exampled by kidney transplant in 1969, cornea transplant in 1980, allogeneic bone marrow transplant in 1983, small bowel transplant in 2004. All of them were performed here for the first time in Korea. As of 2017, more than 1,000 liver transplants have been performed as well as liver transplant immediately after bone marrow transplant.
Eye Center The Eye Center at SSMH has been representing Ophthalmology of Korea over the past half a century. It is the best in cataract, eyesight correction and cornea transplant. Today, it has strengthened its international competitiveness and is acclaimed to have become an ‘international’ eye center. As the eye center that represents the Republic of Korea, the center succeeded in artificial lens insertion (1980) for the first time in Korea, the first to exceed the performance of an accumulation of 60,000 artificial lens insertions (2012) and the first to exceed the performance of 5,000 artificial lens insertions per year (2017) in Korea. Eye Center of SSMH consists of Cornea Transplant Clinic, Cataract and Refractive Surgery Clinic, Allergy Clinic, Retina Clinic, Glaucoma Clinic, Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Clinic, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Neuro-ophthalmology and Low Eyesight Clinic. Health Promotion Center Health Promotion Center at SSMH has a sophisticated hotel-like facility and it has more than 130 medical professionals including 27 professors and 11 clinical divisions. The most advanced CT, MRI and other medical equipment are installed just for the Center so that one-stop services can be provided to clients at their comfort and convenience. Health Promotion Center at SSMH designs health screening packages depending on the age, gender, occupation, health conditions of clients.  :
The International Healthcare Center provides one-stop services for international patients and the medical professionals at the Center provides consultation and tests prior to referring patients to different divisions. There are 3 physicians at the International Healthcare Center. Especially, there is a Russian doctor who works as a coordinator and manages Russian patients’ treatment schedules. Through a patient referral system established between the hospital and Russian hospitals, Russian patients can receive follow-up care when they return home. Moreover, there are 8 full-time coordinators providing consultation, and they help with services such as patient escort to international insurance claims. Interpretation services in English, Japanese, Russian, French and Chinese are available.
